Changing Continents

Pray for wholesome good-byes and safe travels this week (Tuesday & Wednesday).

This week we move continents. We did this a dozen years ago when moving to Africa. It is frightening and surreal because it seems like just another trip across the pond.

We had stuff in Africa, but it was difficult to consider it our home culture. It never was. Perhaps we should apply Abraham's mentality that we are strangers and aliens in this world. We have stuff here. We build relationships here. We pray for justice and the advance of the Kingdom of God here. But the political, economic, and social movements in this world are just waves passing over us, but not defining currents directing us.

I vote in elections; I tighten my belt for economic downturns; I mourn cultural values which are non-biblical, but I am separate from those things. Amidst confusion in what is happening around me, I can have confidence that God has made the universe and has not stopped caring for me and mine....and His.
